What is The Memory Clinic?
- A group of caring professionals who specialize in the diagnostic techniques required to accurately determine the cause of memory loss. Once a diagnosis has been made, appropriate treatment options, including symptomatic and disease-modifying, are discussed with the patient and his/her family. The patient and his/her family members then select their preferred treatment options to treat the Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders.
- For nearly 30 years, the clinicians at The Memory Clinic have been committed to “Caring for the Mind” of our patients and their families. Our patients and their families are treated with respect at all times, including maintaining confidentiality and advocating for their interests. Our goal is to bring the level of expertise typically associated with urban universities to the local area, making quality dementia care more accessible to persons in a rural area.
Affiliations & Research Opportunities
The Memory Clinic has been involved in the research of medications to help treat Alzheimer’s disease since 1990 and our efforts, together with the efforts of other clinics worldwide, have led to the approval of the five medications used widely today. We continue to participate in clinical research that is on the forefront of the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Due to our involvement in clinical trials, we are able to offer our patients access to the latest advances in medical science.
About Our Logo – Why A Seahorse?
Many people ask us why we selected a seahorse for the logo of The Memory Clinic. The Latin word for seahorse is hippocampus, which is a part of the brain that is very important in memory. The term hippocampus was originally coined in 1587 by Julius Caesar Arantius because he thought that the anatomical structure of the hippocampus resembled a seahorse especially the curled structure of the tail!
